How to get into the City of Salem Employee Self Service (ESS) portal

Follow the link above to access ESS.

New Hires: Please allow 2 weeks for HR processing and account creation before attempting to log in.

Click the login link at the upper right of the welcome screen then enter your username and password.

Username is your first initial, full last name and last 4 of your social security number. Example – jsmith1234
Password is the last 4 of your social security number the first time you login.

You will be required to change your password at this point, as well as enter a HINT in case you forget the password you selected.
The new password must be at least 8 characters long, and contain - at least one upper and lower case letter, one number and one non-alphanumeric character. Example - W1tchC!ty.
Make sure the hint is something that will help you remember the password you selected.
